ALA Competency 2: Information Resources

INFO 5815,  - Rural Outreach - The paper discusses how inequitable resources can be based on location. (Fall 2020 completed)

This assignment was a paper analyzing access to digital collection materials for all patrons. I researched about access disparities in rural and urban areas. I discovered that access is less equitable in rural areas than in urban ones due to the location and transportation of users. This assignment was an A. This assignment changed my idea about collections, and how resources can be readily available, but not accessible due to means outside of library resources.  I think this assignment meets this competency because it supports the user access to collection materials and the techniques used by the library such as Needs Assessments.

INFO 5400- Needs Assessment- The paper discusses the actions taken for a needs assessment for Texas A&M Libraries. (Spring 2021 completed)

This assignment was a paper performing a Needs Assessment for the Texas A&M University Library system. The assessment conducted a study about access to Texas A&M collections, both physical and online. The study clarifies the population and target group accessing the collection and uses the results of the survey. I surveyed the population to collect data to create better avenues for user access. I tested the population with a survey that I created, and I asked specifically about online and physical collections to fit my focus. The assignment was an A. This assignment helped me understand the needs of user needs and access. I discovered that most people do not access online material because they do not have the tools or knowledge of online access. I think this assignment supports the competency because I am looking at how users access information resources and issues that may arise.
