Conferences
As an individual striving to be the best, I have attended conferences that have made a significant impact on me.
RISE PRE-CONFERENCE
One such conference was the RISE PRE-CONFERENCE held in 2017 at the Omni Hotel Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas. At this event, I gained valuable insights into the pervasive racial divides in America and how people of color often face socio-political and business disadvantages. I also learned how information can be manipulated to the detriment of communities of color, resulting in their youth being at risk and having fewer tools for success.
TAMU RISE
Another noteworthy conference was the TAMU RISE from 2017-2018 in College Station, Texas, held at the Memorial Student Center on campus. Through this inaugural event, members of RISE explored the social systems in place that consistently disadvantage people of color through racial injustice and social inequity. Ten RISE members of varying nationalities and cultural backgrounds presented their research on racial inequality and social equity, and the conference was sponsored by Texas A&M University. This experience allowed students to reflect on campus culture and climate with regard to racial inequality.
