ALA Competency 4: Technological Knowledge & Skills
INFO 5707, Term Paper - The paper discusses a digital database with a collection of data for the ED Walker Automatic Scheduling System. (Summer 2022 completed)
This assignment relates to competency 4 because it was compiled of technological manipulation of resources to provide information. The manipulation of data, using a relation language with SQL, can assist users in obtaining information efficiently using SQL queries. I learned that data is not as easy to manipulate as I thought. SQL skills are a prime example of a technical user, while end users need the manipulated data in visuals to communicate the information. I received an A on the assignment. I learned about different technical languages and diagrams to demonstrate data. I think this fits the competency because I learned about how to display data with both technological knowledge and skills.

INFO 5400, Assessment Test - This assignment is a survey that I made for both the student and faculty population at Texas A&M University regarding access to their collections for the library system. (Spring 2021 completed).
The library’s databases hold information about collections and materials that the library had access to. I used the assessment test to figure out how library users access both physical and online collections. This test was a part of a bigger assignment of a Needs Assessment. I received an A on the assignment. I learned how to construct questions to create a base for quantitative reasoning. I think this fits the competency because I used a survey to test the technological advantages and disadvantages of Texas A&M University’s library system.
